Laempe wins Herborner Pumpentechnik as a new customer for 3D printers

Barleben / Herborn, 08 July 2025 – Laempe Mössner Sinto GmbH has gained another customer for its L3D-200 industrial 3D printer. Herborner Pumpentechnik GmbH & Co KG, a long-established company with its own foundry, has opted for the innovative solution from Laempe. The decisive factors in the decision were, in particular, the modular design, the complete suitability for foundries, the independence from binder and molding material systems, and the convincing overall concept.

Herborner has been relying on Laempe since 1985 – previously in the field of core shooting machines. With the new L3D-200, the company is now pursuing the strategic goal of additively manufacturing not only cores but also casting molds in-house in the future. The system is used for prototypes and small series, which are the norm in Herborner's production environment: The medium-sized family business is one of the leading suppliers of centrifugal pumps for water treatment, swimming pool technology, industry, and shipping.

Customized solution thanks to modular design

The decision was made after intensive market analysis and visits to existing Laempe users, including BMW and INACORE. Representatives from Herborner Pumpentechnik were impressed by the practical benefits and performance of the systems during their on-site visits. With its own iron foundry and development expertise “Made in Germany,” Herborner has been committed to innovation, quality, and sustainability for more than 150 years. The integration of additive manufacturing is a further step toward future-proofing its own production:

“We were particularly impressed by the flexibility of the modular design – we were able to configure exactly what we currently need without limiting ourselves in terms of further development. The open system architecture and foundry-compatible design make the L3D-200 the ideal solution for us,” says Torsten Kumpf, foundry manager at Herborner Pumpentechnik.

The open system architecture also allows free choice of binder and molding material—a unique selling point compared to the competition. Conceivable functions such as bidirectional operation or full automation of the entire process are already planned.

Strategic milestone for Laempe

With the sale of the L3D-200 to Herborner Pumpentechnik, Laempe is continuing to develop its additive manufacturing business.

"We are very proud that our specially developed 3D printing solution can contribute to the transformation of our customers. Industrial companies such as Herborner Pumpentechnik want to rethink their manufacturing processes – we offer the complete spectrum for this: from classic core shooting to printing and automation to hybrid or service-based models. The L3D-200 is a truly futuristic product," says Andreas Mössner, Managing Director at Laempe Mössner Sinto.

Laempe is thus positioning itself as a full-service provider for hybrid core production – from conventional core shooting machines and state-of-the-art printing systems to “Core-as-a-Service” solutions. The L3D-200 is the ideal addition to the portfolio and gives customers maximum freedom in their production strategy.

Outlook: Signal effect expected for the industry

The delivery date for the system is scheduled for 2026. Laempe is already working on the design for a possible expansion, as the customer is also planning construction measures for an expansion project. “We expect our L3D-200 to make a significant contribution to the future-proof further development of our customer's foundry,” Andreas Mössner continues. “The demand for flexible, economical, and foundry-compatible 3D printing solutions, as well as classic core shooting machines and automation solutions, will continue to be important differentiators for our customers in the future.”
